GrowthAccelerator programme for Leadership and Management funding

GrowthAccelerator programme is a new initiative helping England's brightest businesses achieve their ambition and potential. The government is investing nearly £200 million in GrowthAccelerator, because the evidence is clear that fast growing small businesses generate a very high proportion of economic growth and jobs in the UK.

The aim of GrowthAccelerator - previously known as Business Coaching for Growth - is to increase the number of small businesses that achieve rapid growth. It will help small businesses with potential, overcome barriers to growth and make a significant contribution to our ambition of a private sector-led recovery.

Delivered by the private sector for the private sector, GrowthAccelerator provides high growth potential small businesses with the know-how and ability to achieve sustainable growth. Proven business experts work with business leaders to tackle issues such as:

  • Developing and delivering a tailored growth strategy
  • Becoming investment ready and securing finance
  • Commercialising innovation effectively
  • Developing leadership and management capability
  • GrowthAccelerator also connects clients with trusted sources of business advice locally. For example, UK Trade & Investment, business incubators and specialist professional services firms, as well as investor and business networks.

GrowthAccelerator is delivered across England by leading national business advice specialists' organisations along with a range of specialist local partners. It has an impressive team of coaches that have a track record of delivering successful growth in SME's of all sizes and in all sectors and regions.

GrowthAccelerator is available only for companies with genuine potential for rapid and sustainable growth. Businesses with the capacity, commitment and intent to double turnover or employment within three years.

To be eligible, your business must be in England and have:
  • Two to 249 full-time equivalent employees
  • The potential for high or fast growth
If eligible, you will receive:
  • A free assessment from a skills adviser to identify the leadership and management development required by the nominated leader. The adviser will then agree with the leader on a development plan
  • A government grant of up to £1,000 for use on management and leadership training. You will have to match the amount of this grant – e.g. to receive a grant of £500 your business will have to contribute £500 of its own money
  • For specific information on this programme and to put your organisation forward for the subsidy please email: funding@freetrainingguide.co.uk

There are some important points to note:
  • Employers cannot make a profit from their employees undertaking training.
  • Where employers are claiming from more than one source of public funding they must ensure that they do not claim the same cost from more than one source.
  • It is an employers' responsibility to ensure that they do not claim more funding than the cost to them of employees undertaking training but direct costs such as course fees, employees' salaries and backfill if required (i.e. wage replacement costs) can be included for this fund.
  • Employers must ensure that they have records in place to evidence the costs of any funding claims they make.

To access the funding employers must meet certain criteria:
  • You must be an adult social care employer operating in England.
  • You must join a WDF partnership – this has traditionally been the local authority run – care development association such as BCDA Learning and Development Service, Black Country Partnership for Care, Solihull Workforce in Care Development Association, Staffordshire Association of Registered Care Providers, Leicestershire Care Providers, North London Care Partnership etc.
  • You must have a National Minimum Data Set for Social Care (NMDS-SC) account, which has been fully completed or updated in line with the requirements for funding between the advised dates. To set up a free account visit www.nmds-sc-online.org.uk.
